Explosions and Lips

Saturday night we went to an awesome concert with Explosions in the Sky and The Flaming Lips at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Half way through the main band's performance, Hurricane Danny decided to drown us in buckets of rain! Despite our attempts to wait it out, the rain won and we had to go home early :( It was still a really neat concert while it lasted!!

The lead singer of The Flaming Lips crowd surfed in a huge ball!!

They released tons of huge balloons and confetti!!

It was so windy that the confetti and balloons made it all of the way to where we were standing :)

Alex and Danielle hitting balloons

When it started raining, we all ran into a huge tent which eventually started to flood!

Soaked!!

After fleeing from the torrential rain and swimming to the car parked half a mile away, we stopped by Dave and Den's house for some towels!!

DC Weekend

This weekend we went to DC to see Alex's parents. We had a great time visiting the Smithsonian, watching Black Holes on IMAX, eating at a wonderful French restaurant, and shopping at the oh so yummy Dean and Deluca store in Georgetown!! It was our first time seeing the Scheers since moving to Philadelphia and it was very sad to leave. Luckily they will be coming up to Philly in a couple of weeks!

Don't eat meat?

Saying goodbye :(

Before the long ride back (which seems even longer when trying to study micro)

Welcome Back

Friday night was Drexel's Welcome Back party. We had four hours of free food and open bar at a beautiful restaurant with great friends. It was a good way to start our post-exam weekend!

Grandma's Visit

A couple of weekends ago Grandma was able to stop by on her way back to North Carolina. We went out for a yummy lunch before we had to take to her the airport. It was nice to spend some time with Grandma Betty :)

New Additions

Alex and I finally got a kitchen table and bed!! Pottery Barn delivered the bed during my first exam today so it was very exciting to come home to such a nice prize! The bed is HUGE and towers over the other pieces of furniture in the room so we may have to ditch the box spring eventually to make it more normal sized.

Run number four to IKEA finally resulted in a kitchen table earlier this week!! It turns out that their website does not show the accurate number of tables they have in stock. It has been very nice eating at a table instead of on the floor.

Moo, unfortunately, has already had a bad experience with the bed. The wall opposite the bed has mirrors for closet doors and in an attempt to jump onto the bed, Moo jumped into the mirror instead.  Poor little girl learned a quick lesson about mirrors!!

Still working on getting pictures for the frames...

1 Week Down, 4 Years To Go

After a super long and hard first week of school, I came home last Friday to find a yummy cake sitting on the counter!! Alex made me and my friends a "1 Week" cake! It was really good and we REALLY enjoyed it :)

Philapartment

Our new apartment!! I was going to wait to post the pictures until we got our kitchen table and bed (to be delivered next week!) but we couldn't wait any longer! Our new Philly pad has been awesome so far, except for the nocturnal people upstairs who constantly pace around the apartment like elephants. We took these pictures at night time so you can't see the pretty view of the gorgeous houses out front. We have made a few friends in the apartment building, all of whom go to Drexel too! It has been tons of fun using all of our new wedding presents... we love everything!!

Our kitchen! The kitchen table will go under the frame collage when Ikea gets it back in stock. Some of our pretty picture frames are empty at the moment :) We are waiting for the wedding pictures to come in to fill them!!

My favorite cabinet with all the pretty glasses!

Moo's favorite spot! I came home from class and couldn't find her until I heard a meow from above :)

The living room and study spot. The wires under the television are a bit ugly, but we will figure something out soon.

Other side of the living room. Our closet doors are mirrors (you can see Alex if you look closely)! There was an ugly fuse box that, luckily, our signing frame from the wedding was big enough to cover!

Bedroom

The mattresses. We will put another picture up when the beautiful bed arrives!

White Coat Ceremony

We had our White Coat Ceremony last Friday. We were coated by faculty or alumni and took the Hippocratic Oath. If you have a family member who has graduated from Drexel, they were allowed to coat you. Uncle Dennis was able to come to Philadelphia and coat me. It was so special to have a family member start my journey in medical school! Mom, Dad, Lisa, Alex, Grandma, Aunt Pat, Dave, and JY came to watch too!! It was a really nice ceremony followed by some yummy food :)

DUCoM Orientation Week

This past week was full of Drexel orientation events. Alex and I are both exhausted, but super happy that we met a lot of new friends! We attended our first Philly's game (we lost), took a trolley tour of downtown Philadelphia, and went to a few barbecues. I had to sit through a few days of OSHA regulations, curriculum explanations, meetings with financial aid counselors, mental health counselors (ha!), and advisers. As relaxing as this week was supposed to be, I think we are both ready for a more regular school schedule.

We got to the game super early and had to sit directly in the sun...

New friends :)

The Art Museum!! I decided to have my "Rocky" moment when I finish all four years of medical school!!

Perfect Parallel

I finally was able to parallel park the car in our neighborhood!! This seemingly simple accomplishment was my first big step towards city living :)

Okay so it was not that crowded on the street...

Uncle Paul's Philly Tour

Uncle Paul took Alex and I on a guided tour of Philadelphia today. We had so much fun!! We started our adventure with breakfast at the Reading Market. It will definitely be a place we go again for a good Amish breakfast! Alex and I tried scrapple. I thought it was good, Alex, not so much. We walked all around Market Street, over to the Franklin Institute, to Rittenhouse Square, and drove through Old City. It was fun to see our new city!! We can't wait to go back and explore some more :)

The city of LOVE

TomTom

Our best friend in Philadelphia right now is TomTom. He gets us everywhere we want to go... Ikea, grocery stores, McDonalds. We would be completely lost without our little buddy!!

A Near Nate Napping

Our friend Nate was in Pennsylvania visiting family so we decided to go visit him! We considered Nate-napping him and taking him home with us so that we could have a friend in Philly, but in the end, we had to say goodbye :(
