Stars, Stripes, and Blueberries

Happy Memorial Day!  We celebrated the holiday with a few friends and a BBQ!  I was lucky enough to be off and had time to spend the day making yummy snacks.  Alex grilled hot dogs, corn, and salted honey watermelon.  We ate deviled eggs, goat cheese garnished watermelon stars, cucumber hummus mini cakes, and chips and salsa.  Our cocktail was blueberry sangria lemonade.  I made blueberry ice cream for dessert which went perfectly with Kate's strawberry shortcake.

Little C: Our Niece

Alex and I became and an Uncle and Aunt early in May when our first little niece was born!  We took advantage of having this weekend off to go meet the new baby, Little C.  We didn't want to crowd the new parents so we stayed at a nice hotel down the street - thanks to the Scheers.  It was a quick trip, but we had a wonderful time getting to know our newest family member.

We celebrated Frank's birthday on Sunday.  Now that he is officially an American, we gave him a set of books that Americans grow up reading.

The Tastes of Summer

Alex and I have been taking full advantage of the beautiful summer-like weather.  We cook out on the grill most nights.  Tonight, we decided to have grilled pork chops, corn, and jalapeno poppers for dinner.  I made homemade peanut butter ice cream for dessert.  It was a wonderful taste of summer!

CMC Alumni Events

This past Thursday and Friday were special days for the Ob Gyn Department at CMC.  We spent the last two days celebrating our alumni.  There were several guest lectures, department case presentations, and third year resident research presentations.  Thursday night, we had the annual Harrison Alumni Dinner Event at the home of one of our alumni.  Friday night, there was a reception and dinner at the Marriott Hotel.  It was a fun two days!

Special Cargo

Mom came to Charlotte this weekend by train!  She wanted to celebrate the end of Step 3 with me.  We spent the weekend walking around Uptown and eating tons of great food.  Mom tried pulled pork at one of our favorite BBQ places, ate awesome sushi, and had brunch at the amazing Peculiar Rabbit.  We took her to tour Carolinas Medical Center, see Katherine and Tessie's new house, and visit Kaylyn at UNCC.  We had a wonderful weekend!

Food Truck Friday

We started off our weekend at Food Truck Friday!  Food Truck is an event held every Friday in South End, where a bunch of food trucks line up and people come to eat all the goodness.  I can't believe Alex and I had not been yet!  After sixteen hours of Step 3 last Thursday and Friday, I was sure ready to eat!  We met some friends from work and had a great time.
