Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween!!  Moo has enjoyed hearing all of the stories from my surgery rotation and decided to be a surgeon this year for Halloween.  She even learned an instrument tie and will be assisting on Frankenstein's surgery tonight!

Pumpkin Carving

Danielle and I carved our pumpkins last night!  Danielle carved a ghost and a bat into her pumpkin and I carved a boring face.  We are all ready for Halloween now!  The best part about carving pumpkins... roasting the seeds!!

Ghoulishly Good Times

Finch had a medical school interview in New Jersey this week and was so close to Philly that he decided to make a weekend visit out of it!  Amy and Kevin decided to come along too!!!  Alex and I planned a super spooky weekend in Philly for some Halloween fun, but the weather had other plans.  We were going to go to the haunted Eastern State Penitentiary like we did last year, but the temperature shift to the low thirties and the sleet and snow definitely changed our plans.  We still had an awesome time though!!!

Alex and I picked a few Halloween themed cocktail drinks for the weekend to get us in the Halloween spirit!  This drink is called Brain Hemorrhage... gross!!

Cheers!

Alex went out to a late dinner Thursday night with Finch, Amy, and Kevin and had jellyfish!

Alex and I both had to work Friday, but Finch and Kamy got to spend the day exploring Philly!  Good thing they did because the temperature dropped twenty degrees that night and spoiled our outdoor weekend plans!

Halloween candy bracelets!

More Brain Hemorrhage at the hotel Friday night!

The Jack-O-Lantern cocktail!

At the Continental Martini Bar!

We made hot apple cider for the first snow day of the season!  I wasn't sure if I should play my Halloween music or go straight to "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas."

Instead of waiting outside in the snow for the Eastern State Penitentiary, we decided to go to a concert downtown.

Waiting for the train!

At the concert!

We went to Reading Terminal Market for breakfast before everyone had to leave on Sunday :(

Bloktoberfest

Alex and I went to Bloktoberfest last night in downtown Philly.  Bloktoberfest is an event where they close down several blocks of South Street and local venders come to sell food, microbreweries showcase their beer, and bands provide free music for the crowds.  We got there a little late because Alex had to work all day :) but we were able to try some Thai food and hear some good music.  After the festival, we met a couple friends at an Italian place and had the best dinner!

Waiting for our Thai food!

Our amazing desserts after dinner :)

Pumpkinland

Danielle and I picked up Alex from work today and went to Pumpkinland!!  Pumpkinland is this cute little farm about forty minutes outside of Philadelphia that sells pumpkins, plants, and all sorts of items at their country store and also has hayrides, pony rides, and haunted tours.  Danielle and I have been dying to go to a pumpkin patch so this was perfect!

Pumpkinland!

Danielle and I picking out pumpkins!

Alex found a weird looking pumpkin.

The farm had tons of little stands with candy apples, funnel cakes, jalapeno poppers and more!

We got apple cider donuts and apple cider slushies.  They were so good!!

Yum!

RiverCity Festival 2011

This morning, I went with the Drexel ophthalmology team I have been rotating with to work at the RiverCity Festival in Fishtown.  One section of the festival focused on healthy living and had several booths set up for different areas of medicine.  We set up our booth for the festival goers to come check their visual acuity and intraocular pressure.  Unfortunately, there was no electric plug near our booth and someone forgot the numbing drops for the eyes so we could not do all of the screening we had originally planned to do.  We did give out a lot of information about cataracts and glaucoma though!

Have you had your eyes examined recently?
