Bug Life

Alex and the kids collected bugs the other day.  I just watched.  They had a great time gently putting the little bugs into their cartons and examining them under their magnifying glasses.

All ready to find bugs!

They found juicy ones under the trash cans.

Harper was very proud of her roly polies, slugs and worms.

Ethan Makes a Cake

Harper is my usual assistant baker, but she was busy playing with silverware, yes silverware, so Ethan helped me bake a blueberry lemon cake.  Alex has been teaching little man about colors using fruits.  Ethan's favorite color word [to say] is yellow.  We decided to use the yellow lemons to make a cake!

My newest helper!

Busy with utensils

The mess is certainly bigger with this helper.

His favorite thing was increasing the mixer speed.

Someone did emerge from the land of forks to taste test the frosting.

Our finished product!

Keeping up with Toddlers

I had a busy weekend keeping the kids entertained.  We decided to have a camp-in, complete with camping themed dinner and dessert.  The kids had a little too much dessert, however, and were too wound up to actually sleep in the tent.  They both ended up sharing my pillow at one point or another throughout the night!  Ethan helped me make pretty pancakes for breakfast and bear bread for lunch.  We did some fun activities and went on lovely walks through the neighborhood.  Everyone is tired from this fun weekend!

Harper enjoyed tasting the ingredients for our dirt cake.

We had ants on a log, pretzel hot dogs, veggie fries and fruit for dinner.

Dirt cake!

Harper was not a fan of the dirt cake (even though she loved the ingredients separately).  Ethan, on the other hand, could not get enough.

After dirt cake, we had indoor s'mores.

Harper ate most of them!

All ready to camp!

After the campers had their bath and milk, I tried to tuck them in.

They had other ideas...

After a late night, Ethan helped me stir for the first time.

We made fun pancake shapes!  This was supposed to be a flower.

Cat or spider?

Bunny

We made bear bread for lunch.

After Ethan's nap, we went outside to clean dinos.  I had put some of Harper's dinosaurs into backyard mud and the kids had to clean them off with toothbrushes in their soap baths.

Harper did a great job!

Ethan somehow managed to get more mud on his shirt than was on the dinosaurs.

Things got a little wet so we had to change into bathing suits.

On Sunday, we brought back the toothbrushes and foil tins for a dinosaur bone dig!

I set up the tins inside, as I thought it was too chilly outside.

Digging for bones!

Ethan consulted the in-house expert paleontologist.

He found a bone!!

I decided it was definitely not cold enough to keep adding to this mess.  We moved back outside!

Easter-In-Place

It was a strange Easter without extended family this year, but the kids still had a wonderful time.  We dyed Easter eggs, had an egg hunt, left treats for the Easter bunny, found awesome Easter baskets and made a yummy Easter dinner.

Little man was excited to dye eggs!

Gigi and Poppy sent the kids a new fun way to decorate eggs with markers.  They had a blast and the eggs were beautiful!

Everybody had a turn.

Our finished product!

My favorite egg was Harper's.

Nanna and Granddad sent delicious bunny chocolates!

All ready for the egg hunt!

They did a great job finding the eggs.

Then they ate all the candy and went crazy!

Happy Easter!

The Easter bunny nibbled on our carrots and left the kids a note.

Harper found her basket under the desk.

Ethan looked under the couch for his basket.

They found it behind the curtains!

It was a successful Easter.

Harper and I had made a cake on Saturday for Sunday dessert.  The frosting did not turn out as planned.  It was supposed to be pastel colored, but it was neon instead.  I also ran out of frosting.

So I decided to scrape it all off an start again.

I made bunny shaped rolls.

Deviled eggs

Dinner!

I had used all of the confectioners sugar on the first batch of frosting.  So we had to use whipping cream and regular sugar to make whipped cream frosting.  Our mixing bowl and attachment were in the dishwasher so we had to whip it by hand!  The neon frosting was all stuck to the original cake so I used a biscuit cutter to make the cake smaller.  We had just enough whipped frosting to cover it.
