Regan Reunion 2014

Alex and I both had the weekend off so we snuck over to Isle of Palms, South Carolina for the Regan Reunion.  This is the first year our family has tried this beach, which is just outside of Charleston.  Alex and I were only able to stay the weekend, but we had a blast and can't wait to hear the stories from the rest of the week.  My family is staying with the Shupes and the Chicago Regans.  It was a short trip for us, but it is nice to be able to picture where everybody will be for the week.

Anytime I go to the beach, it rains.  My dreary curse continued during our thirty-six hour Isle of Palms trip.

Our family rented a total of five houses this trip.  A few families stayed at houses on this colorful block!

We had ice cream on the boardwalk.

Saturday night, a few of us had cake and sang happy birthday to the July babies!

The sun was out Sunday morning so Alex and I decided to head to the beach.  But by the time we got to the white fence, it was pouring :(

We went to Courtney and Tim's house for dinner last night.  We grilled out and enjoyed the Super Moon.  Happy summer!

Microbrews Cruise

Alex and I went to the White Water Center with Kate, Sean, Hunter and Kelsey last night for a Microbrews Cruise.  The Microbrews Cruise is a group kayaking event on the Catawba River followed by dinner and beer tasting from a local brewery.  The White Water Center hosts the event.  The kayaking was awesome, especially when Alex tied my kayak to his and did all the paddeling!  We had shrimp and grits for dinner which was fantastic.  The brewery was Smuttynose Brewing Company.  We had an amazing time and plan to the Zip Line and Wine event next!

Our kayaking group!  I wish I had my camera on the river, but I was too afraid of dropping it.

Cheers!

Five Wonderful Years

Alex and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary this past Thursday.  I cannot believe it has been five years since we got hitched under those beautiful North Carolina pecan trees.  We made dinner reservations at Five Church in Uptown, trying to be symbolic.  Cheers to the first five years and here's to the next sixty!

My hubby had roses and champagne waiting when I got home from work :)

Dinner was absolutely amazing!

Charlotte Regional Farmers Market

Alex and I met our friends, Matt and Presley, at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market yesterday.  We had never been before and it was awesome!  The produce was extremely fresh and cheap!  We bought fruit for the juicer and veggies for dinner this week.  After the market, we went out for brunch at Tupelo Honey Cafe, my favorite!

Graduation Banquet

The hospital held a Graduation Banquet last night at the Marriott in uptown to celebrate the senior residents who are graduating and moving on to fellowship or practice.  Attendings in every field had to cover for residents for several hours so everyone could attend the event.  We had a blast!  It is sad to see our forth years leave, but we are excited for the new class of interns!

A few of us met at Lorene's apartment before the banquet.  The roof of her building has great views of uptown!

Camping on Morrow Mountain

Alex and I went camping on Morrow Mountain this weekend.  We have been waiting to use our new camping stuff for so long!  Morrow Mountain is a North Carolina State Park about one hour from Charlotte.  Alex picked it for the awesome hiking trails.  The trip was last minute, but we had a wonderful time eating smores and hot dogs and hiking another North Carolina mountain.

Our set up!

We love our sleeping bag for two.

The bug spray and flashlight were my favorite possessions.

Alex put together a nice salad and we ate hot dogs off the grill.

 Good morning!

After breakfast, we hiked up to the top of the mountain.

I cannot hike without my pink shoes.

The first peak in the distance is called Tater Tot Mountain :)

River Jam

We went to River Jam at the White Water Center tonight with some of the residents.  Our residency financial advisory group hosted dinner and drinks for residents and family.  The White Water Center has a man made river for white water rafting and kayaking.  They also have ropes courses, zip lines, and running trails.  Our OB program has an intern bonding trip here every year.  The White Water Center holds a concert every Thursday night called River Jam.  We have been meaning to go for so long!  It was such a nice night!
