We said goodbye to our Moo Moo last week. She had been sick since around Thanksgiving and we only recently received the final diagnosis of large cell lymphoma with a large obstructing mass on her colon. This past week without her has been difficult and the house has felt remarkably empty.
We were lucky enough to be Moo's parents for the past twelve years. She was our first baby and our little furry girl. We first met Moo at a pet shop while visiting a friend at work. We had no intention of getting a pet, but ended up with a loveable ball of fur. Moo was the only kitten not fighting with the other cats and was instead curled up in a corner of the kennel sleeping. We fell in love with her big ears, silly personality and strong desire to climb up our pants and into our arms.
Moo was with us for all of our milestones as a family. She lived with both of our parents at multiple points, was Alex's roommate at several apartments in Raleigh, and lived with us at our first shared apartment in Chapel Hill. She made the big move to Philadelphia with us and was my constant study buddy throughout medical school. She went to Aunt Pat's house for several quick weekend trips and even lived at Emily and Frank's house for a month in Pittsburgh during one of my rotations there. Moo was happy to move back to North Carolina where the houses were bigger and the weather was warmer. She moved into our first house with us and was there to welcome Harper home from the hospital. We had Moo through college, medical school, and residency.
When it came time to say goodbye to Moo, we decided to have Laps of Love come to our house so that Moo wouldn't have to be stressed at the vet. She spent her last moments on daddy's lap in her favorite chair while getting one last good brushing. I can't imagine a more peaceful way to go. We miss her terribly, but are thankful for the many wonderful years we were able to spend with her. A piece of our family is gone, but we will cherish the memories forever.
Welcome home Moo!

Welcome home Moo!
There are several years of Moo pictures on my other computers from college and medical school. Moo always did like to help me study. She would usually sit on my desk and watch me read.
We took Moo to Chapel Hill's campus for a picnic!
Moo helped us with our wedding invitations.
Moo loved to climb up onto the cabinets in Philadelphia. This was her favorite hiding spot.
We loved putting costumes on Moo.
She was a very festive kitten.
There was one trip where Moo rode on two trains, an airplane and a car!
She was very loved!
Emily made Moo a jacket for cold Philadelphia winters.
She helped me celebrate UNC victories from Philly.
Study, study!
There was one year where Moo was a surgeon for Halloween.
We took Moo on Philly picnics too!
Moo was able to experience the snow.
Valentine's day was another favorite for Moo.
She liked to pick the big presents.
Moo's most favorite treat in the world was a good bouquet of flowers. She would nibble, nibble, nibble all day long.
Sometimes we got Moo flowers for her birthday.
Moo helped us get ready for Harper. She had no idea what was coming her way.
This was the first time Moo and Harper met.
Moo was such a good big sister!
As Harper got older, she became Moo's personal terrorist. This gate saved Moo many times.
Sleeping babies
Moo let Harper hug her, brush her and snuggle... for short bits of time.
Moo jumped at every opportunity to snuggle Alex after Harper went to sleep. They spent every night together watching TV or reading books.
