We went to one of the places on my Charlotte bucket list today before it rained - Big Rock Nature Preserve. It is nestled within a neighborhood and you could easily drive right past it. Just a couple hundred yards into the woods is a collection of large boulders with historical significance. They look completely out of place among the trees. Indigenous people used to meet here and artifacts were found from as long as 7,000 years ago during an archeological dig! The kids had fun climbing on the rocks and we did a short hike along a stream at the bottom of the hill.
We found a little turtle!
