We started off our Labor Day weekend by camping at the zoo! I first read about Snorin' Safari about five years ago in an Our State magazine and it has taken me that long to score tickets! Because our tickets were on a Friday, we had to take the kids out of school an hour early to make it to Ashboro in time. Despite no chance of rain in my weather app, huge thunderstorms rolled in the minute we got there and lasted about four hours. We were able to set up our tent under a structure and eat in an area with a roof. The rain delayed some of the activities, but we were still able to take a walking safari through the zoo at night. We essentially had a private tour and learned so much about each animal enclosure we visited. We also learned about the conservation efforts the zoo is involved with. There was a scavenger hunt when we got back to the campsite followed by s'mores. We were able to meet a few "animal ambassadors" in the morning before heading home. We camped in the Africa part of the zoo. Maybe next time we will do North America or Asia!
