Bryce Canyon was our next stop and luckily wasn’t too far from Zion. Bryce is known for hoodoo rock formations and they were amazing! Hoodoos form in areas where a thick layer of a relatively soft rock is covered by a thin layer of hard rock. Over time, cracks in the resistant layer allow the much softer rock beneath to be eroded and washed away. Hoodoos form where a small cap of the resistant layer remains, and protects the underlying softer layer from erosion. It is the freeze/thaw cycle at Bryce that does the weathering. We were impressed by the vibrant red colors and the unique rock formations. We were lucky our first day at Bryce with great cloud cover. There was an impressive storm in the distance that we kept our eyes on. Bryce had much milder temperatures overall, which was nice.
Watching movies in the RV!
Our first day at Bryce, we rode the shuttle into the park. After noticing that it wasn't very busy, we drove in the second day. One very interesting thing we noticed at the parks was many different spoken languages. There were many tourists from France, Germany, Scandinavian countries and Asia. We definitely felt like Americans were the minority at multiple of the parks!
Hoodoos!
We forgot her pacifier on our first hike and she cried the entire hour.
Navajo Loop was our favorite hike in Bryce. I have never seen anything so unique! Harper had a cold the first few stops of our trip and spent a lot of time with a finger in her nose.
We walked through this cave of awesome rock cairns.
We made our own!
This trail was very steep at the end!
Our camp site was beautiful! We loved the views.
We had a pancake breakfast at this KOA site.
We missed the clouds on our second day at Bryce. We hiked several miles on the Rim Trail. Harper was not a happy camper during this hike. Since our RV was in the park, we all took a two hour nap with the generator pumping AC after the hike.
We explored the town after our nap and stocked up on groceries. Harper picked out a little cow toy.
Jail is for babies who cry during long hikes.
