Harper and Ethan Had a Farm

Our Mommy School subject this week is farm life!  I made reservations at a small farm for the kids to visit on Friday.  Harper had the most amazing time!! Ethan got pecked by a chicken and knocked over by a camel so he was iffy on the whole experience.  My surgery was delayed so I missed most of the farm visit, but our host gave me a baby lamb to hold when I arrived and it made up for being late!  We learned about different farm animals and how much work it is to take care of them.  We also learned about growing crops and all the goods that can come out of a farm.

Ethan enjoyed meeting the llamas.

The kids had a lot of fun feeding all the animals.

The camel knocked Ethan over and stole his bucket of food!

The baby lamb Ethan is holding was born that morning!!

I made it in time to feed the pigs.  They ate an entire bag of potatoes!

Baby lamb snuggles!

The kids were able to ride a pony around the property.  It was great!

We started our farm study with a few books.

We used magnifying glasses and our microscope to investigate different types of seeds.  We looked at eight different seeds and Harper made observations on how they were different and alike.

We planted our own paper seeds in our field.  We are growing six different crops.

Harper and Ethan have to water the plants daily so they will grow.

We used popsicle sticks to make different types of fences for our farm.

I had bought a tub of farm animals.  Harper played with the animals and fences for several hours!

Sunday morning was full of farm work!  The chickens had laid eggs in the hen house for the kids to collect.

Our sheep needed shearing.

The cow needed to be milked.

Luckily, with Harper's good care, the crops started to grow overnight!

We made sure to water them this morning.

Ethan was a little nervous he would get pecked again.

Ready to shear!

We loved milking the cow.

Someone loves milk!

We used our milk to make homemade butter.

We used our eggs to make scrambled and poached eggs for breakfast.  We talked about dyeing and using wool to make clothes.  The kids decided to have a wool fight instead in the living room.

It has been a fun lesson so far this week.  We are excited to see our crops continue to grow and can't wait to see if our chickens lay more plastic eggs overnight!
