We had our last private tour Wednesday morning at the British Museum. We were excited to show the kids the Rosetta Stone, but we also learned so much about other items from our guide.
The British Museum
Many distinguished scholars, authors and poets have worked in this Reading Room right at the center of the museum.
Our guide showed us his favorite items in the museum.
The kids learned how to read the Rosetta Stone.
I liked this medication exhibit. It shows the medications people take from birth to death.
This was stolen from Easter Island. Many of the artifacts in this museum were stolen from other places. It is a point of contention.
The Rosetta Stone! It was the key for researchers to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphs after finding identical text in Demotic, Greek and hieroglyphs.
The first scuba divers are depicted in this stone carving. They used inflated goat skin to breathe and float underwater.
After the museum, we went out for pizza.
After lunch, we hopped on the Uber boat to explore the River Thames. It was a scenic boat taxi. It ended up being the never ending tour, however, as everyone in London had the same idea and each stop took forever.
We had a relaxing spot.
We were hungry after our long boat ride so we had a cheese snack back at the flat.
Alex, the kids and I had tickets for Matilda that evening. The theater had little Matilda themed decorations and the stage had the best sets I have ever seen. It was by far the best play/musical I have been to - very impressive!
After the show, we stopped for dessert.
