Mother - Daughter Tea

This weekend Lisa, Mom, and I went to tea with Emily and Michele at the Umstead Hotel in Cary. We ate mini sandwiches, scones, and pretty desserts while drinking flowering teas. Everything was so cute and yummy! We had fun finalizing wedding plans and were able to sneak a peak at the wedding going on outside!

Invitations Away!!

Today we mailed all of the wedding invitations!! Emily and Frank worked hard designing, configuring, printing, taping, and piecing together each and every one. Mommy spent her Memorial Day weekend writing all of the addresses- formal outer, informal inner, and return. They took a long time and a lot of work from many people, but I think the finished product was definitely worth it!! Check your mailboxes later this week!!

Fiesta Friday

This past Friday we were able to use the pretty fiesta set from Aki, Isabel, Emi, and Abby! We had almost awesome margaritas (too much marga, not enough rita) out on the porch with some friends :)

The Apartment Hunt

After several weeks of stalking the apartment listings on craigslist and studying the expected lifestyle of Philadelphians (where they take shelter, find food, form social groupings, etc), we finally formed a list of potential prey apartments. The next step was plotting our attack. We traced the distances from home base (Drexel Medical School), communicated with the different leasing agents, and set up a temporary shelter at Aunt Chrissy and Uncle Paul's house. We weren't expecting a good catch, maybe something small, almost descent, and pretty expensive, but what we caught was amazing! We cannot be more excited about our new apartment!! We owe the success of our prize catch to the experienced hunters, Dave and JY... without them we would have made the worst mistake! In the end, the hunt was most successful :)

Our building from the 1920s! Overall, our new apartment is about half of what we have now so we will have to pick and choose what comes with us. Size is the only downside, luckily. The appliances are all stainless steel, the room has just been gutted and remodeled (so we will be the first to live there!), and it is only a 5 minute walk from school.

The view (ours is one story higher) of the house I am going to buy in 50 years :)

Super tiny bedroom... but it has a remote control fan :)

Pretty bay window for our desk!

The oh so beautiful kitchen that sold me as soon as I walked in!!

UNC Graduation Weekend

This weekend was full of fun graduation events!! On Friday night, we went to a banquet for Public Service Scholars. I copied this little factoid from a UNC website in case you were wondering what PSS is: "The Public Service Scholars program provides a framework for undergraduate students who want to strengthen and maintain their commitment to serving communities throughout North Carolina, the nation and the world. PSS encourages students to learn about and practice public service and engagement beyond the scope of traditional volunteerism, including organizational service, policy and advocacy work, fundraising and philanthropy." I was given my PSS blue and white cords at the banquet and will have a note on my diplomma as well signifying PSS!!

Saturday we had my biology department graduation. It was very nice seeing all of the people I have been competing with for the past four years! There was a wonderful student speaker who compared our four years at Carolina with the four life stages of Drosophilia fly (we are biology nerds). It was really cute and thoughtful and hit on many of the things that have characterized us as biology majors through the years.

Sunday was the big graduation. We were lucky that it was cloudy so that nobody was too hot! After graduation and the wonderful speech by Desmond TuTu, the family went around UNC with me to take some special pictures!

From Millionaire to Redneck Row Party

This past Saturday, we went to Chris' Horse/NASCAR Race party. We were supposed to dress in our Sunday best for the first part of the party (Horse Race) as we sipped Mint Juleps and ate Erica's pretty cupcakes. Then, when the NASCAR Race came on later, we were supposed to change into our redneck clothes and munch on corn dogs and moonpies. Alex and I did not change into hick clothes, but we did eat the corn dogs and moonpies!
