28 Weeks: Eggplant Baby

We made it to the third trimester!  LB is busy blinking her eyelids that are now lined with cute little eye lashes.  She should be close to two and a half pounds this week.  We are both still doing very well without any difficulties.  The only change I have had to make is being more aware of LB's bump while operating!  I have probably thumped her in the head a few times with a retractor or instrument.

Happy twenty-eight weeks!

My big accomplishment this month was having my reproductive endocrinology chapter published!

Very exciting, but not bedtime story material :)

Buzz City

Cari and Joe invited us to a Charlotte Hornets basketball game Saturday night.  We have been dying to see the Hornets play!  We had amazing seats and were super close to the court.  It was fun seeing all the old UNC players who were Tarheels when I was at Carolina.  The Hornets beat the Hawks in an awesome game!

Go Hornets!

This Hornet flew around the stadium at half time!  We were very entertained.

27 Weeks: Rutabaga Baby

We are in the last week of our second trimester.  LB is the size of a rutabaga, which sounds just awful to eat.  Little twenty-seven week fetuses usually weigh around two pounds now and are about fourteen inches in length.  They have regular sleep-wake cycles and very active brains!  Today is also a special day for big sister Moo.  Moo turns nine years old today!

Moo can't believe she is nine years old!

I am the weird cat person who buys their cat flowers.  Moo loves to pluck each petal off one by one.  Happy birthday flower girl!

26 Weeks: Lettuce Baby

Happy twenty-six weeks!  LB is the length of a head of lettuce, almost fourteen inches.  We did a quick ultrasound when Alex's parents were in town and again when my mom visited a couple weeks later.  LB is growing fast!  She likes to stick her tongue out and put her hands on her head.  She is definitely a cutie!

Getting bigger!

We have a long way to go on the nursery.  Our next step is picking a paint color.

25 Weeks: Cauliflower Baby

We are twenty-five weeks today!  LB is now similar in size to a cauliflower.  At twenty-five weeks, fetuses weight around a pound and a half and are just over thirteen inches in length.  They finally start producing baby fat and develop a sense of equilibrium this week.

Moo does not support this picture.

Keung Comes to Charlotte

Mike had to spend several days in Charlotte for work so he stayed with us!  We hadn't been able to hang out with Mike since last year!  We grilled pizza, got to use his Oculus Rift, and had a great time.  It is nice actually having a guest room for friends to come and visit!

24 Weeks: Cantaloupe Baby

We have finally made it to twenty-four weeks!  Twenty-four weeks is the magic number in obstetrics and pediatrics.  It is the week at which the fetus may potentially be viable outside of the uterus, with a lot of NICU support of course.  As an Ob, it is the gestational age at which you start mattering to me, however harsh that sounds :)  It is a big milestone for sure.  Everything has continued to go smoothly without any problems.  At twenty-four weeks, most fetuses are about one and a third pounds and nearly twelve inches.  They are similar in size to a cantaloupe!  LB does not feel that big to me yet.  My favorite foods are apples and chocolate... which is baseline for me.  I have not had the crazy cravings people talk about.  I first felt LB move a little after twenty weeks and Alex finally felt her wiggle over the past two weeks.  Only a few more months to go, although I wish time would just slow down!

Scheers in Charlotte

Alex's parents came to visit us in Charlotte this weekend.  They flew across the country to see the new house and spend time with us!  It was a quick trip, but we are very thankful for the time we were able to spend together.  LB doesn't even know it, but she had her first shopping spree this weekend :)  Can't wait to see them in a month for the baby shower!
