Intern Dinner

Our intern class went out last night to celebrate the completion of orientation and the start of an amazing four years.  We have the best group and I am so very excited to work with all of them.

Intern Ropes Course

With just a couple days left of orientation, the Ob Gyn Department took us out on a ropes course for some team building exercises.  Our group included the six ob gyn interns, a fourth year resident, the Ob Gyn Chairman, the Ob Gyn Program Director, and our wonderful Program Coordinator.  We went to the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte.  It is where Olympians practice for whitewater rafting competitions.  We had a blast learning to trust each other and working as a team to get through the course!

Completing the Look

We bought a few more things for the townhouse this week.  They definitely make it feel more like home!

We picked patio furniture that we love.  Now we can enjoy our balcony in style and comfort.  The rattan ball string of lights is awesome too and looks great at night!

Very comfy

We bought Moo a cat tower.  She is still getting used to it.

The curtains finally showed up!  The living room looks much better now.

Keep Calm and Grill On

Alex's parents got us a townhouse warming gift: a grill!  We have always wanted a grill and are psyched to finally be able to have cook outs!  We already grilled steaks tonight and they were amazing.  The grill will definitely be key to our amazing first Charlotte summer!

 Unloading the huge box!

Moo and I watched Alex set the grill up.

It was a big task!

Finally together!

The grill's maiden voyage out back.

Yummy steaks, asparagus and mushrooms!

Intern Orientation

I had my first day of orientation today.  It was long and boring, but at least I am getting paid!  It was fun getting to know my fellow interns and I am happy I can avoid the floors for another two weeks.  I came home to a vase full of flowers and a card addressed to Dr. Wife.  I have the best hubs!

A table full of my favorite things :)

Our New Digs

Welcome to our new digs!  We are just loving it!  The new townhome is perfectly placed downtown within walking distance of everything we could need.  There is a greenway right behind our complex that runs all the way to my hospital.  It will be a nice bike ride to work once it cools off!  We have three floors in addition to the garage and our legs are just starting to get used to going up and down the stairs.  Little Moo is getting her exercise too!  It is amazing to think that each floor in the new place is about the size of our entire old apartment.  I can't believe we spent four years in such a tiny place!  If you are ever in Charlotte, come by for a visit!

One of our favorite things about the new place is the garage.  We have never had our own garage!  It is great knowing at least one of our cars is safe and sound inside.  The extra storage space for our tools and sports equipment is an added bonus.

The first floor has a den which we turned into Alex's music room.  We love the way it came out!  Now Alex can practice without me yelling at him to turn the volume down!

The first floor is also where the guest room is.  We don't have a bed yet, but a blow up mattress works just as well!

It is also known as the Diploma Room.

The guest room closet has a bunch of built in shelves that we love!

 Coat closet

The guest bath!  We have a comforter to match the shower curtain, but we need to buy a bed first :)

The second floor is where our kitchen and living room are.  The kitchen is big enough to hold all of our wedding presents!!  It is wonderful being able to finally use the wedding gifts that have sat in my parent's house since the wedding.  We love, love, love it!

My favorite part of the townhouse is the kitchen pantry.  We have not had a pantry in forever!!  I am obsessed with the space.

Our living room!  We are still waiting on the curtains to arrive.

The space above the couch is a little empty.  We may put a mirror there eventually.

We framed pictures we took from all of our travels abroad.  These are our travel shelves.

The wedding guest book and a pretty little kitty.

Our bedroom is huge!  We feel like we are sleeping in the master suite of a fancy hotel!

We have a cute little balcony off our room.  It has amazing views of uptown.  We still need to get chairs for outside so we can really enjoy it.

Our view of uptown!  It is only a few blocks away.

Another amazing part of the house: the master closet.  It is humongous!!  We love it!

Our bathroom is super cute.  The washer and dryer are in a closet off the bathroom.

The Streets of Charlotte are Safe Again

A couple weeks ago, Tessie was driving home and passed the scene of a car accident.  A car had hit and knocked over a power line pole and was on fire.  The car was surrounded by sparking live wires and was quickly becoming engulfed by flames.  Tessie ran up to the car, saw that a man was still inside, and pulled him out!  Tessie saved the man's life!!  You can find the story in the Charlotte news.  To celebrate our hero, Bay and Debbie planned a surprise party the day we moved in.

Tessa baked rice crispy treats and Bay found legos to represent Tessie pulling the man from the burning car!

For she's a jolly good fellow!!

Bay pinning a medal on the hero!

A superhero t-shirt and cape!

We watched the recorded news interview of Tessie.  Alex and I definitely feel better knowing we moved to a city protected by superheros :)
