Paddling Penn's Landing

Alex and I have been wanting to go paddle boating on the Delaware River for a long time and today we finally did it!  We rented a swan boat so that we could be together and set out on Penn's Landing.  We just barely squeezed our little paddling adventure in before a big storm.  It was great!

Waiting to get our swan!

The Moshulu boat where we had Dave's graduation dinner.  That is Christina and Connor's old apartment in the background!

All the little swans and kayaks.

After paddle boating, we had lunch in Rittenhouse Square.

Good thing we had our new Columbia rain jackets!!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Happy birthday to me!!!  I am a quarter of a century now!  To celebrate, we went to one of my favorite restaurants, Outback Steakhouse.  Who can resist a blooming onion?!  Alex made my day special with flowers, a pile of thoughtful presents, and gift cards to my favorite stores: Anthropology and Pottery Barn :)  He knows me so well!

My birthday flowers from the hubs.

Philly Candlelight Ghost Tour

Alex, Hilary, Shawn and I went on a Candlelight Ghost Tour of Philadelphia last night!  We met a group of people downtown after dark and our tour guide, dressed as a lady from the 1700s, led us around center city telling ghost stories.  My favorite was the one about the yellow fever victims buried in Washington square!  We would have had better pictures, but someone left the camera in the car and all we had was my camera phone.

The group walking ahead of us.

Hilary and Shawn in front of a house haunted by ghosts of surgical patients a surgeon operated on and killed in his own home.

I saw a ghost and tried to take a picture, but it was gone after the flash :)

Alex's 26th Birthday

Alex turned twenty-six last week!!  It is crazy to think that I knew him when he was just sixteen.  The poor guy had to work all day on his birthday, but we went out to our favorite sushi place as soon as he got home.

Some of Alex's presents!

I made corona-lime cupcakes with lime frosting.

A man-bouquet!

Happy birthday!!

Cemetery Cinema

Last night, the Laurel Hill Cemetery of Philadelphia hosted a movie night.  It was a double feature.  The first movie was a found home movie that was shot in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in the early 1900s.  It was about the exhumation of a deceased wealthy Philadelphian whose will had mysteriously gone missing and was presumed to be in her grave.  The second movie was Plan Nine from Outer Space, more commonly known as, "The Worse Movie Ever Made."  It also took place in a cemetery.  We packed our chairs, blankets, and snacks and set up to watch the movies over the graves.  It was great!

Arriving at the cemetery and parking on the path that runs along the graves!!

Walking over to the movie area.  Creepy!!

Picking out our spot!

Luckily we got there before it was too crowded so that we could get a decent spot.

We decided to sit with Mr. Ellis.

His neighbor tomb was very pretty.

Our group of grave sitters.

Creepy angel near by that reminded us of Dr. Who.

Waiting for the movie to start!

Steve is not very good at taking pictures.

The movie!

I wanted a picture with a tomb stone and the first one I picked had Charlotte carved on it!  Maybe it is a sign!!

Fourth of July 2012

Happy 4th of July!!  We celebrated the holiday at Hilary and Shawn's house with a barbeque.  After collecting Pinterest 4th of July recipes for months, I could finally make a few pretty red, white and blue desserts.  Alex had to work most of the day, but got off at nine and rushed over to Hilary's to join the celebration.  We had planned on going to the firework show downtown, but left the bbq a little too late and ended up missing the show!  Here's to making it next year :)

Red and blue cocktail for me and Danielle before we left for the bbq!

Strawberry and blueberry angel food trifle.

Watermelon stars!

Star spangled blueberry pie!

I think we should just quit school and go into the food service :)  Danielle made yummy salsa, guacamole, and a 4th of July drink.  Hilary made a noodle casserole and a cute kabob station for dinner!

Danielle's drink looked like the American flag!

Happy 4th!

Shawn entertained us with his amazing backyard firework display.

They were awesome!

Hilary, Danielle, Joseph and Alex enjoying the show!
