UNC Graduation Weekend

This weekend was full of fun graduation events!! On Friday night, we went to a banquet for Public Service Scholars. I copied this little factoid from a UNC website in case you were wondering what PSS is: "The Public Service Scholars program provides a framework for undergraduate students who want to strengthen and maintain their commitment to serving communities throughout North Carolina, the nation and the world. PSS encourages students to learn about and practice public service and engagement beyond the scope of traditional volunteerism, including organizational service, policy and advocacy work, fundraising and philanthropy." I was given my PSS blue and white cords at the banquet and will have a note on my diplomma as well signifying PSS!!

Saturday we had my biology department graduation. It was very nice seeing all of the people I have been competing with for the past four years! There was a wonderful student speaker who compared our four years at Carolina with the four life stages of Drosophilia fly (we are biology nerds). It was really cute and thoughtful and hit on many of the things that have characterized us as biology majors through the years.

Sunday was the big graduation. We were lucky that it was cloudy so that nobody was too hot! After graduation and the wonderful speech by Desmond TuTu, the family went around UNC with me to take some special pictures!
