The kids wrapped up their last week of school before Christmas break this week. They are excited for some time off! We had quite a few holiday traditions to fit in this week. I am exhausted.
Harper had a Scouts holiday party Monday night. They wore pajamas, ate snacks and watched a Christmas movie.
My Merry and Bright Walk luminary event was planned for Sunday night. Of course, it was the windiest day of the year. I had painstakingly told everyone how to fold the bags in order to keep them from blowing over (and catching fire), but the wind was so strong the lights wouldn't stay lit. I had to reschedule the event last minute. We moved it to Monday night. There was no wind at all Monday night and it was perfect.
A lot of time and planning goes into our luminary event so I was so happy to see it go so well (on take two).
We actually already had plans for Monday night at a neighbor's house. They are Jewish and hold an annual party for neighborhood kids to learn about the Hanukkah celebration. We started at the party, then went out to see the lights.
It was so cute! They had coloring pages for the kids and dreidels to play with. There was traditional Hanukkah food and cider. We had a great time!
Shari read a book about the meaning of Hanukkah.
The kids lit the candles.
Afterwards, a lot of us walked around the neighborhood together. I picked up Harper after she was home from Scouts.
I had bought a snow machine and was excited to use it for Merry and Bright Walk.
On Wednesday night, we met Courtney and Kate for our annual Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden night.
The place has undergone a lot of changes in just a year! They completely re-did the gift shop to a little cafe. They also added an entire playground!
After several years of not having enough food at the event, we brought our own food this year! We all shared sushi and it was delicious.
The pictures with the kids are always blurry because they never stop moving!
A lot of the lights were different this year too.
The kids always throw coins into the water and make wishes here.
This may be one of my favorite pictures of the week!
On Friday, the kids were able to wear pajamas to school.
I went into the school Friday afternoon for Harper's class party. I was able to see the gingerbread houses each class made.
I was in charge of the class craft for the party. I found these individual snowman kits that were a hit.
They had a parent come into play Christmas music on the saxophone.
Harper and I made cookies after she got home from school.
We had special Christmas breakfast for dinner. Harper made the pancakes herself!
We went to The Nutcracker Ballet with Michele and Dave Saturday night. I was on call, but one of my partners filled in for a few hours so I could go.
It was amazing, as usual!
On Sunday, Ethan and Harper both had friends over for a bit in the morning.
The kids and I had reservations for tea at Sophia's Lounge in the afternoon. Ethan and I had gone alone to this last year, but decided to invite Harper this time. It was great! They got teddy bears on arrival to our table.
We started with a hot chocolate / tea course.
Santa arrived!
They had great mocktails.
The food was delicious!
Santa came to the table to talk to the kids. It was adorable.
The dessert table was to die for.
