Gold Rush

We went to the Reed Gold Mine today, which is only forty minutes outside of Charlotte.  The gold mine is the site of the first documented gold find in the United States back in 1799.  We walked through the museum, explored the old gold mine, hiked on the grounds, and panned for gold.  It was a fun little outing in our backyard!

Ready to explore the gold mine!

At the entrance!  You could feel the tremendous change in temperature from ninety degrees on the trail to inside the mine from where we were standing.

The gold mine was awesome!

Luckily, we always bring snacks and a change of clothes now!

The old stamp mill!

It was fun to explore the area.  We had to stay on the trail because the grounds were full of collapsed shafts.
